Tween help needed!
No, not for that, you perverts. Pixie has a twelve year old sister who *desperately* needs to be educated about the *truth* about sexuality and gender. Less than no help from other family members, here. Anyone have books/films/media/etc. recs that would be appropriate for a well-read but unfortunately somewhat prejudiced tween? Everything I'm thinking of requires at least a 15-16 year old mind.

Hrmm....

The book I read growing up was The Human Book Of Sexuality, printed by the folks at SEICUS. I believe it's long out of print, but they have an interesting website nonetheless: http://www.siecus.org/

They've got more links here: http://www.siecus.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Page.viewPage&pageId=626&grandparentID=477&parentID=620

Cannot help with sex ed recommendations. However, after my niece made a date with someone she met on the internet, but did not know if she really knew him in real life, I got her a book on dating safety. I cannot remember if it was the Idiot's Guide to Dating or the Dummy's Guide to Dating. Check out both and pick the one with the best safety advice. The book also had good advice on how to tell someone "thanks for the date, but lets not go out again" and "no, we will NOT be having sex now." I'm told it got passed around to a lot of the young high school set.

I haven't flipped through it myself, but a friend of mine said her Aunt recently bought a book for her 11 year old cousin that she thought was really good - Sex, Puberty, and All That Stuff: A Guide to Growing Up. She liked how it talked about things in a more direct and less clinical fashion than most, and didn't seem to hedge around answers like many books do.
